What Would You Say? - An Agent in Crisis
Tweet |
What would you say to someone who’s thinking about throwing in the towel on real estate? I mean, it’s been a while since the last closing and the bank account is dwindling and the agent only has one listing (and it’s a mobile home for crying out loud!). It's that kind of scenario. What would you say? And then the second question is along the same lines: What would you want someone else to say if it was you in the situation? And what would just make you seethe if it was said?
Agent #1: Can I have your farm and past client’s list?
Agent #2: Have you tried to call the expired listings? What about a postcard campaign? Have you gone door-to-door?
Agent #3: We all go through hard times. Let me tell you about one of mine and how I handled it.
Agent #4: It’ll turn around. It just has to. Maybe if you work a little harder, that’ll make things happen. You need to pull yourself up by your own bootstraps.
Agent #5: Now’s not the time to give up. Let me help you. I’d like to give you some support until you can get yourself going in the right direction.

Boy, I feel like this was written for me! I guess I would choose #5... However, there is a point when you have to --when the money is long gone and you're HUNGRY -- cut your losses and move on.

The smart people know that the secret to making money is to help someone else make money.
Take this agent under your wing, share a listing or partner up with them for a sale. Get them involved in a transaction so they have less time to ponder their plight.
This will always work
I DON'T agree with ANONYMOUS in that smart people will help the realtor (was he/she choosing #5?) that is struggling. You don't have to be "smart" to help a drowning friend or fellow worker. You can be dumb as a rock to help someone. You do have to be smart enough to know when to grab the life jacket...before you go down.

The horrible part is when you never even get off the ground.
