Do You Know The Lingo?
I was thumbing through a Reader's Digest recently and stumbled across the page: "RD Challenge by Gunnar Johnson" (Oct 2006). On it (in the form of a test) was a compilation of symbols (or emoticons) grouped in such a way to form different faces. I have a few of them listed here for fun. Try to match them (answers below):
1. ~:0
2. :-.)
3. :-{)
4. <:-(
5. *<:0)
6. d:-)
7. :-B
8. 0:-)
a. bucktoothed
b. baseball player
c. angel
d. dunce
e. mustached
f. Cindy Crawford
g. clown
h. baby
(Answers: 1. h; 2. f; 3. e; 4. d; 5. g; 6. b; 7. a; 8. c)
Now that you're finished with that, this had me thinking about internet lingo as well. Are you pretty up on it? Do you know what I'm talking about? Internet lingo (or internet acronyms) is a way of communication on the world wide web through the grouping of symbols and/or letters. Some of these you're familiar with or have seen (I'd imagine) while others of these you probably never knew - like the following:
:-) smile; laugh; "I'm joking"
%-) confused, but happy
%-( confused and unhappy
:-() can't or won't stop talking
lol laughing out loud
otfl on the floor laughing
rotfl rolling on the floor laughing
imho in my humble opinion
imnsho in my not so humble opinion
IM-ing instant messaging
g2g got to go
ppfm please pray for me
ttfn ta ta for now
bff best friends forever
w/e whatever
