10 Habit Patterns That Can Explain Why People Are Fat (Oops, Obese)

I have a confession to make. (Did your ears just perk up after you read that?) We all like to hear "confessions." Right? And so here I go with mine: My belt buckle has become a little bit tighter in recent years. Which is kind of a surprise to me since I've always been a relatively skinny guy. But something happened when I got into my mid 40s that I'd only heard others talk about. And quite frankly, I thought, "That'll never happen to me. No way. I will never have to worry about weight." Well, so much for that. Now don't get me wrong. It's not like I need to go on the "Biggest Loser" TV show anytime soon. But I am moving in a different direction that I haven't been used to for the better part of my adult life. (Excuse me a moment while I loosen my belt. There. That's better.) Which brings me to the list below. It's developed to be a reminder to me (and you, too?) that if I am to avoid a further increase in my waistline, I need to turn away from certain things while turning towards other things. And so here are...

While I may agree with your list of what makes people fat (hey, I'm fat so the P.C. terms are silly, IMO), you left out another important (or possible) factor; medical issues. So many people are eager to assume that fat people are a bunch of lazy bums. What people fail to realize is many of us fatties may be battling certain health issues that inhibit us to maintain a healthy weight. Or for us to lose weight we have to work extra hard to lose our excessage "baggage". No, I'm not rationalizing at all. I fall into that category, unfortunately. I've been a pretty slim person most of my life until I underwent surgery a few years back. As an indirect result of said surgery, my weight has skyrocketed. I am now considered "obese". Maybe even "mobidly obese". I refuse to look at those charts anymore. Could I exercise more and eat better? Absolutely. But because of certain medical/health issues, I'm a *very* big girl now and for me to reach a healthy weight again, short of having surgery, I will have to work 10X harder than most people. Society needs to change their view on fat people. We're not all a bunch of lazy, cough potato, chocolate-lovin' bums. :-)
