6 Safety Tips When Showing A Home

The news of a murdered real estate agent in Iowa has shocked us all. It took place during an open house. Police are suspecting another agent may have been involved. (For continuing story, click here.)

So what precautions do you take as a realtor® when showing a home? (Feel free to leave answers in the comment section below.)

We only need to go as far as common sense to find an answer...

6 Safety Tips When Showing A Home:
  1. Ask a co-worker, family member or friend to be there with you.
  2. If you have to be alone, don't broadcast via social media that you are.
  3. Personally invite the neighbors prior to the event. Create a "crowd" atmosphere from the start.
  4. Have a secondary escape route in case of emergency.
  5. Consider obtaining a weapon for the purpose of protection or signing up for a self-defense class.
  6. Be alert at all times. (Requires remaining healthy and being well rested.) Don't let your guard down (ever).
We all know there is no perfect plan to stop crazies from doing the unthinkable. But at least we can put up a lot of barriers to make them think twice.
