Everybody likes old photos. (I sure do.) And when you add to that they're from the place you live (or grew up in), it's all the more interesting.
A coworker gave me the heads up on the following site: Penny Postcards. When you click on the link you'll be taken to a website that contains "postcard" archives (old photos) from all 50 States. Click on the state of your choice and you'll drill down to choices by County.
My personal interest went to 2 States and 3 Counties.
Currently I live in Sonora, California and so I especially wanted to see Tuolumne County. Some of my favorite "postcards" here include Strawberry Lake and a Washington Street scene in downtown Sonora.
Growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area I also wanted to see Alameda County. Two of my favorite scenes here are the Claremont Hotel in Berkeley and the Memorial Day Service in the Garden of the Chapel of Memories (Oakland, 1940).
My last State of interest and County was Minnesota and Hennepin County where I went to college. My favorite "postcards" here are a shot of downtown Minneapolis and the picture of Minnehaha Falls (I have fond memories).
I trust you'll have as much fun searching Penny Postcards as I did. :)

Thanks for reminding me about Penny Postcards site. I had a friend send that link to me in an email years ago, and I found an old post card there from my elementary school in Stockton that has long since been torn down for a newer structure. It was a great memory jogger for me to see that card.
