10 Tips for Blogging Real Estate
Tweet |
If you have the audacity to refer to yourself as "aka blog boy," you better have something to say about blogging from time to time. (I'm speaking to myself.) In all honesty, the nickname "blog boy" was granted me by a realtor I know named "Sally." The name's been changed to protect the innocent. (You know who you are.) All kidding aside, I wanted to throw in my two cents on how I blog for anybody out there who might be thinking about blogging or has been blogging for a while or has heard a lot about others blogging and is curious. Whoever you are and wherever you may find yourself in relation to the blogosphere, here's a quick list that sums up my approach to blogging. I've tweaked it so that it comes across as tips. (It happens to be a real estate blog that I'm in charge of, but these points will apply to any blog.) May these serve as another encouragement to your blogging experience...
10 Tips for Blogging Real Estate:
1. Have a plan. (Mine: 3 posts per week)
2. Brainstorm topics. (Real estate and non-Real estate)
3. Write, revise and write some more.
4. Read what others are writing.
5. Don't re-invent the wheel. (Mimick the gurus.)
6. Write, revise and write some more. (Did I say that already?)
7. Fight through writer's block. (It happens to the best.)
8. Don't expect perfection.
9. Be yourself.
10. Write, revise and write some more. (Just in case you forgot it.)

I've offered this tip to several RE agents over the years: blog the weekly tour. What better way for someone keeping an eye on the local market to get a Realtor's opinion about the available properties in a given week? Tact would be required, of course, but even just a factual accounting of what they've seen would be useful.
Michael, this was WONDERFUL. HUGE thanks for the tips. Like to try it on my blog. You made this a wonderful, but simple, blog. KUDOS!!!

Can't tell you how often I've read blog posts on real estate that are so thin on details.
Great tips, it helped me determine that I was having writer's block which is leaving as I comment.
