16 Things That Are Said When You Get Fired
Tweet |
Have you ever lost your job? I'm not talking about that you quit. I'm not talking about that you were laid off (as so many are suffering today and we all hurt with you over it that are). What I am talking about is that you were (spell it) ~ f-i-r-e-d ~ fired. (In the interest of full disclosure: As a 17-year-old I got fired from McDonald's for punching a fellow hamburger flipping expert in the nose. You wouldn't want to run into me in a dark alley?) So how was it that you were let go? Was it nicely done or not so nicely? And what was some of the language used? Do you remember? Might it have included some of the following? (and what would you add to the list?)...
16 Things That Are Said When You Get Fired:
We need to talk.
Maybe you're just not cut out for this.
I need to show you the door.
It's been really slow. We just didn't need you this schedule.
You're getting canned.
You're getting the axe.
You're being 86ed.
We'll see ya.
Factory work doesn't suit you very well.
Don't let the door hit you as you leave.
We're going to have to let you go.
Don't call us, we'll call you.
It's been nice knowing you.
I really did enjoy working with you.
You're history.
Good luck.

I said "If you're going to fire me fire me" they said "I'm not sure what we are going to do right now. We have to discuss this on Monday and we will call you"
While I have not been fired (yet) I did have to fire people in the past. Dirty job. What I said: Sorry Jeff, you're really not fitting in here.
What I WISHED I could have said: You lying sack of dung. Using other people's work and saying it is yours is low. Really low. And, by the way, you can't say to your female boss, "I saw your boobies!" and live to see another day here."
I have had to fire too many people due to performance issues and it isn't easy for anyone. My unwavering intent is for a termination to never be a surprise - if it is, I didn't do my job! A person should know their performance isn't meeting expectations and get the chance to change it. When 'the' meeting occurs, everyone has a good idea what's going to happen.
I showed up for work one day (at 16) and I wasn't on the schedule. I asked what happened and the boss just said "I took you off the schedule" That was my first and only firing, I got my job back the next week but for 5 days I was crushed and elated all at the same time lol.
My friend saw me having lunch, and said "I saw your time card on top of the time clock with big red letters FIRED on it" of course I didn't go back to work!
One of my bosses took me to lunch and fired me. She said she didn't have time to train me. Thing is I had been doing her job for years before she had...
One of the great Wingers lines when firing someone is,
"I'm going to have to let you go."
It was the last day of my new-hire probation period. I was called to the manager's office at 5, thinking I was getting a permanent position and a raise. Nope. I couldn't believe it! Not one word had been said to give me the slightest clue. Quite the opposite, in fact. Lots of compliments! But it turned out okay, and my next job became a career. So there, dirt bags who didn't appreciate me!
