Shining the Light on Hazard Risks
Tweet |
I've got a real cool site and tool to introduce to you today. I discovered it via inman.com. It's the My Hazards Awareness Map available on the California Emergency Management Agency website. With the map you are able to determine your home's or property's level of risk in relation to various and potential disasters including: earthquake, fire and flood. I was able to input my own home in the foothills to see that it exists in (of course) a very high fire hazard area. The earthquake potential is only of moderate risk. I also input my childhood home which is in the Bay Area and found out it is in an earthquake-induced liquefaction hazard area subject to high shaking approximately one mile from the Hayward fault in Central Fremont. I don't have to tell you how invaluable this tool can be and/or just all around fun to use. Check it out HERE when you get a chance. Just input your address and off you go.
