9 Reasons Why the Other Guy Got the Client
Tweet |
Sometimes a person does things that keeps business away. (Ya think?) He may not even realize it, but it's happening nonetheless. And did you ever wonder why so-and-so got the listing (if it's real estate) and not you? Or the job? Or the offer? Or whatever the focus may/could be - is? And sometimes it can be the littlest thing if we just did it or stopped doing it (if it's rude) or had a grasp of it (if it's knowledge) and we'd be making better head way/moving forward/gaining momentum. With this in mind I've come up with a list of nine reasons why the other guy got the client (and not you). The thinking behind it is maybe it's time to mimick him (or her)? Only you can determine that.
9 reasons why the other guy got the client:
He didn't cuss.
He smiled.
He spoke positively.
He was cheerful.
He was polite.
He communicated service.
He demonstrated expertise.
He knew how to harness the power of the internet.
He used breath mints. (Thanks @accesssonora)

Few people could argue with these time-tested principles.
Here are some potential other reasons,
1) he didn't care what was right, just what you wanted to hear,
2) he embellished his past so you would think that would be your future regardless of your specific situation,
3) he was a better fit for that particular prospect and you should not have been there in the first place,
4) he low bid the job knowing full well there would be opportunities to up charge along the way.
I don't discount what you are saying in your post, I just think there is more to both winning business and prospecting the right companies.
I do agree that many people who display those attributes get the business, but that does not make them better qualified or best vendor for that prospect.
Albert, Interesting. I have just been through the process of buying something from someone I didn't know.
He didn't care, he didn't smile and he was incredibly unhelpful. He also happened to be the cheapest quote and even if he did know his business well, I wouldn't buy from him, because of his attitude.
Always remember, people buy from people and particularly with a good attitude. They are not always interested in who is more qualified (which would definitely apply if you were buying rockets), or who is the best vendor but simply with whom they get on and with whom they have the best experience.
I will add breath mints to the Listing Arsenal!
but there is a time when happiness and enthusiasm will carry the moment. Tamara Dorris refers to this as serendipity.
A) A fortunate convergence of happenstance, that will create synchronicities in your life.
B) What Albert said.

He wasn't wearing an "I'm NRA and I vote" tshirt. :)
We can never relegate in the background, the meaningful and underlying principles that works for anyone with utmost integrity @ all times...
