On Predictions for 2010

We're in that time of the year again where the prognosticators start coming out of the woodwork. In short order it will seem like everyone and his brother has something to say about 2010 ~ how it's gonna go, what to watch/prepare for, the ups and the downs, both rosy and doomsday scenarios. And so what if a person really could foretell the future? And for the purpose of illustration, let's just say it's us. You and I have the gift of prediction / prophecy. So what might be in our forecast for 2010? Here's an imaginary scenario to make a point. Let's just say our prediction for next year includes our car running out of gas. That's a bad thing to have happen, wouldn't you say? Raise your hand if you think it is. (I see that hand. I see that hand.) The majority raised their hands?! And so it's a bad thing to have as predicted for 2010 our car running out of gas. Right? Are you positive? But what if our car runs out of gas and it happens to take place just prior to going over a cliff? (I know that wasn't part of the prediction, but it just goes to highlight the weakness in predicting.) Our car running out of gas just prior to going over a cliff wouldn't be such a bad thing to have happen, now would it? Actually, that would be a pretty good prediction for the future if you ask me. The point is a bad thing can be a good thing as the rest of the story fills in. It's important to keep in mind no matter what happens (or doesn't happen) in 2010.
