When Your Past Hijacks Your Present

Technology is just so great. Just the other night a friend of mine (I won't disclose HIS name to protect the innocent) wanted to watch the Giants game (San Francisco versus the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League Championship series). So he searched his computer, found the game and started watching it. About four innings later he realized something wasn't right. That's when it finally hit him. He wasn't watching that night's game at all. He was watching the game from the day before. It was a good game. The Giants won. But it was from the past. ("Oops.")
What happened to my friend can be true in life at another level. The fact is some people are watching the wrong game. And more than that. They're in the game, playing the game, but it's from their past. It's a game that's already over. They (and their team) won the game. They played well. They even hit a home run. (It was a happy time.) But it was yesterday. It was before. It's come and gone. It's done. And yet that's all they think about. It's all they talk about: A past success ~ that time when they made a ton of money, received pats on the back, were on top of the world. It's gotten to the point that their present is suffering (these people's pre-occupation with the past). They're neglecting the game of today. (Deserves a double "oops.")
