Manipulation. It happens when one person exercises some form of control over another person. There are good forms of manipulation (like a parent protecting a child from harm) and there are not so good forms of manipulation. Some of us are more easily manipulated by the "not so good forms" than others. It may be that we don't like confrontation (so we give in) or we want to be liked or we can't stand being rejected or we want to be a part of what everybody else is doing ~ it could be just about anything at the root of why we allow ourselves to be taken advantage of by a manipulator.
