2 Thoughts About Twitter and Relationships from the Royal Wedding

I have a confession to make. I woke up Friday, April 29th, 2011, at 2 a.m. (Pacific Daylight Time, USA) and watched the Royal Wedding. (Vows were exchanged about an hour later.) No, I didn't set my alarm clock to ring. And no, I didn't plan it. I just happened to not be able to sleep (no lie), turned on my wife's computer and there it was live streaming ~ Prince Charles and Camilla (Parker Bowles) entering Westminster Abbey. After that came Queen Elizabeth in an all yellow dress. (Quite striking.) And then not too much later came Kate Middleton, the bride-to-be.

It was really quite fascinating to watch, actually. The pomp. The circumstance. I enjoyed it. (Though I'm paying for it now sitting here typing this about 12 hours later.)

And I guess as an off-the-cuff response to taking in this event like I did and as it has to do with Twitter and relationships in particular, I had the following two thoughts...

Thought #1: You can have all these followers (a thousand, ten thousand, a hundred thousand).

(For the "royals" they're "admirers" / countrymen who hailed them as they drove by on their way to the wedding.)

But it's simply impossible to have any kind of real life relationship with so many folks. (Thank goodness for Twitter lists!)

And then now...

Thought #2: The best relationship is always person to person, one on one, (I'm married so I'm biased in this area) husband and wife is a top example.

(The new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge look good together. Reminded me of my wife and I almost 23 years ago.)

The relationships on Twitter, or any other social media platform for that matter, will never be able to replace the best relationship.
