13 Ways People Deal with Bad News

So how do YOU deal with bad news?
I guess the way you answer that question really depends on what the bad news is. Right?
I mean, if the bad news is your favorite baseball team lost in the playoffs, then you'll deal with that in a certain way. (It's not such a big deal unless you're a fanatic.)
If the bad news is your brother and sister-in-law are losing their house to foreclosure, then you'll deal with that in a certain way. (That's a much bigger deal than a sports game.)
If the bad news is about Y-O-U and you've got cancer (God forbid), you'll definitely deal with that in a certain way. (It's probably the biggest deal when it's happening to Y-O-U. Right?)
So how do YOU deal with bad news?
I submit that each of us deals with bad news in probably one or more of the following ways (negative and positive included)...
13 Ways People Deal with Bad News:
(what might you add to the list?)
1. Stick their head in the sand
2. Complain
3. Spend a lot of money
4. Drink alcohol
5. Run away (not just physically, but emotionally, socially, etc)
6. Get depressed
7. Reach out for support (talk to trusted family and friends)
8. Question why
9. Get (real) angry
10. Blame others
11. Kill themselves (unfortunately it happens~if you know somebody having suicidal thoughts, get them help)
12. Accept it and take steps to overcome
13. Go to church

Another way people deal with bad news is to consider the potential positive implications that might result from the initial bad news... look for the silver lining hard enough and you'll probably find it! Getting cancer might bring you closer to your family by making you more aware of how special life is and maybe you get the chance to tell the people you love that you love them as a result. Losing your house might cause you to relocate to somewhere more wonderful, or teach your family that they can get through hard times if they work together, etc.
A good post, but to make the post really stand out for me would be how to help some one to overcome the way they are dealing with the bad news.
And like the above comment, what positives might come from the bad news.
I can relate to more than half the list in the past 2 months. It's hard but yes apart from suicide you will get through it.
Dealing with bad issues in our life strengthens our characters and makes us more sensitive to the needs & pain that others are going through. In giving and receiving love, comort & moral support you strenghthen the bonds of himan connection.
First, have a good cry to help release the tension. Then try to find positives like "silver lining" comment. If it's within your control, look at it as an opportunity and do something to improve it. I was raised on sayings like, "It's almost as if you have to go through the struggle to emerge on the other side." Builds character, as said above. If it's way beyond your control, try acceptance and meditation.
