9 Tweeting No No’s (Things You Should Avoid Doing So You Won’t Get Unfollowed on Twitter)
You start something new (like Twitter and tweeting) and through fumbling and bumbling, a lot of us learn the ropes. Isn’t it true?
And we wish there was a list of do’s and don’ts, but it doesn’t always work that way. But then, through an act of heavenly Providence, somebody comes along (muah) and puts together that list he wishes he had when he was just starting out.
I know this is more for beginners, but it doesn’t hurt for us old-timers (notice #7 especially ~ has it ever happened to you?) to review the basics from time to time…
9 Tweeting No No’s (Things You Should Avoid Doing So You Won’t Get Unfollowed on Twitter):
No No #1: Having an empty bio (tell us about yourself and more than just “I tweet therefore I am”)
No No #2: Altering / modifying the initial tweet when retweeting (some people get upset)
No No #3: Spamming a person’s @ or DM box with pleas for funding or to sell (your) product
No No #4: Spamming a person’s @ or DM box with blog posts to read (one or two times I think is okay; at least I don’t mind)
No No #5: Tweeting while drunk or on drugs (you CAN tell)
No No #6: Using four letter words (it isn’t cool, really it isn’t)
No No #7: Butting in on hashtag chats (as a way of “reaching out” or because you don’t like the subject matter or the people chatting)
No No #8: Using the trending topic multiple times in a single tweet (ex. #Ilovejustinbieber #Ilovejustinbieber #Ilovejustinbieber…)
No No #9: Scantily clad avatars (put on some clothes; lose the Twitter egg)

Amen!
I've been followed by several women violating rule #9, who after a few days unfollow me (or delete the account). Ladies (and gents, too), NSFW is not the way to go.
Never had #7 - butting in on a hashtag chat for visibility - that happen! Yikes. Your #2 for me does NOT include changing things up when the RT lacks space to do so and I change words like - your to ur, too becomes 2, etc.
Great summary! I agree the DM spams are gwtting out of control lately. If ywitter could only 100% ban the automatic ones.
But what if I really do #lovejustinbeiber? ;)
I wrote a blog post similar to this awhile back on Twitter mistakes.

There are definitely tons of faux pas you can make on Twitter without even realizing it as a new user. It really is the wild west at times.
