The Day After I Was Almost Hit by a Truck
Tweet |
I was out jogging. I was running on the side of the road. That's when it happened. This truck swerved into the bike lane (where I was). I had a second to react.
I jumped up the bank of the hill on the side. The truck swerved back. He drove off.
I found myself wondering if what just happened really happened. (Ever done that?)
Fast forward to the next day.
I was out jogging (again). I was running on the side of the road. That's when it happened. This same truck appeared. This time it slowed down. I thought, "Uh oh." It came to a stop next to me.
The window rolled down. And... (I thought about making this a 2-parter, but I won't.)
The guy in the truck rolled down his window. He said, "You jumped up on that bank yesterday. I was the guy who swerved. I wanted to say, 'I'm sorry.' I was reaching down for something inside. I didn't mean it." I said, "I swerve all the time. (I do.) Don't worry about it."
He drove off again.
A happy ending.
Is there somebody you need to go back and say you're sorry to?

It was great the truck returned to apologize for running you off the road. Jogging can get scary and sometimes these vehicles blame the pedestrian and yell nasty comments out the window. This story had a happy ending.
