1. Are one.
2. Can't break free from someone who is.
3. Put them in charge of people (big mistake).
4. Don't realize that control freaks were probably raised by a control freak (parent, family member).
5. Give them control.
6. Reinforce their bad habit (you can point out the problem diplomatically).
7. (Counter to #4) Don't realize that control freaks were probably raised in an out of control situation (dysfunctional family, adult child of an alcoholic).
