Lightning fast read meant to make you think...
10 Mistakes People Make with Comparisons (plus 1 bonus):
1. Do it with apples and oranges (compare things that aren't comparable).
2. Are always comparing themselves with others (their whole lives are about becoming like someone else instead of just being the best they can be).
3. Forget that comparisons are important for tracking progress (where were you last year at this time versus this year?).
4. Forget that comparisons are important for guidance (e.g. we refer to "how to" manuals to make sure we are doing something right versus doing it wrong).
5. Overlook that comparisons are a great way to explain challenging concepts (by use of analogy).
6. Use comparisons to deceive (e.g. by use of "straw man" arguments).
7. Use comparisons to put down others ("you'll never be as good as your brother").
8. Forget that comparing can be a good way of motivating.
9. Overlook that it is the best way to distinguish legitimate from fake (e.g. counterfeit versus real money).
10. Slander (destroy) others' reputations through/via false comparisons.
BONUS Overlook the importance of comparison of a person's words with his or her actions.
