Lightning fast read meant to make you think...
10 Mistakes People Make with Perceptions (plus 1 bonus):
1. Think theirs is without flaw.
2. Think somebody else's is without flaw (e.g. a parent's, a peer's, etc).
3. Overlook how easy it is to manipulate the data.
4. Don't realize how their own bias/prejudice shapes how they view events.
5. Don't realize how their own bias/prejudice shapes how they view other people.
6. Dismiss their own perceptions even when they are screaming to high heaven the truth (live in "denial").
7. Dismiss somebody else's perceptions even when they are screaming to high heaven the truth ("You can't handle the truth").
8. Live in the dark because they choose to remain unaware (you'd be surprised how much you'll learn just by opening your eyes to your surroundings).
9. Overlook how oftentimes perception is reality in the world (and reality is perception).
10. Overlook how allowing time for others to process perceptions may be all that is needed for a correct conclusion to be drawn (e.g. a jury deliberating a verdict).
BONUS Forget how a second look can go a long way to clear up false perceptions (look at the picture in this blog post to see a young woman and then look at it a second time to see an old woman).
