Lightning fast read meant to make you think...
10 Mistakes People Make with People-Pleasing (plus 1 bonus):
1. Don't know the definition (my paraphrase: a people-pleaser is someone who will do anything he can to keep others happy due to a deficiency in himself).
2. Overlook that it really is a bondage/burden.
3. Think that it is possible to please everybody (it is not).
4. Overlook that it is a form of idolatry (people are "gods" in the eyes of the people-pleaser).
5. Forget that all "people-pleasing" is not bad (e.g. you should "please" your boss at work).
6. Don't realize their people-pleasing problem can be tied to an experience with a domineering parent while growing up.
7. Feel like they are responsible for how other people react.
8. Don't realize that one way to overcome people-pleasing is to learn to say, "No."
9. Overlook how much more the people-pleaser is susceptible to manipulation/being manipulated.
10. Forget that the people-pleasing problem is really a problem of codependency ("of or relating to a relationship in which one person is physically or psychologically addicted, as to alcohol or gambling, and the other person is psychologically dependent on the first in an unhealthy way").
BONUS Have never read the following statement which sums it all up about a people-pleaser: "When a people pleaser dies, they see the life of someone else flash before their eyes."
